Kevin Leapley, MA, LPC, CSAT
I was raised in a Christian home and made my personal decision to follow Jesus at 16 years old. I served four years in the United States Air Force (18-22yr). I met my wife, Rachael, in my last month of my enlistment and married her at 23yr. We lived in the San Jose California area and raised three children (now all adults).
I began my own journey of healing and recovery in 2000 and two years later, I felt God’s calling to become a counselor to help men and couples struggling with addictions and distress. In 2002, we moved to Denver Colorado so I could attend Denver Seminary’s counseling master’s degree program. I graduated at the end of 2004.
Another graduate student and I decided to start a counseling center with a focus of providing a place for other Christian counselors to help individuals, families, teens, and children. Our center grew to 20 counselors within a few years of our inception. God greatly blessed us.
Sexual Addiction Counseling
I have received specialized training for sexual addiction therapy from Dr. Patrick Carnes and I also obtained certification as a Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT). In helping men recovery from the addiction, I include my own experience in working my own recovery. I work with clients to determine the underlying wounds or trauma that he is using the sex to numb, medicate, escape, and alleviate. My sexual addiction counseling services include both individual and group.
Marriage / Relationship Counseling
In working with marriages and couples, I have completed extensive training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and obtained the necessary requirements for Certified EFT therapist. EFCT is a structured approach to couples therapy developed alongside the science on adult attachment and bonding to expand our understanding about what is happening in couple relationships and to guide therapists. Research studies find that 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery and approximately 90% show significant improvements.
I am trained to utilize the Prepare/Enrich assessment for couples. PREPARE/ENRICH is an online assessment tool for both married and unmarried couples who want to understand and improve their relationship. By asking key questions in the beginning of the assessment, PREPARE/ENRICH addresses each couple’s relationship stage, situation, challenges, philosophical/spiritual orientation, and personalities and tailors the inventory to assess the couple’s strengths and the areas of challenge where growth will bring about the greatest benefits. Each partner completes the inventory independently by answering approximately two hundred questions.
I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for the treatment of trauma and have received additional EMDR training for trauma associated with both addictive behaviors and anger.
